Kenilworth Greenway to Common Lane

The Connect2Kenilworth (C2K) project has given us the opportunity to use the extended Greenway crossing Coventry Road over a new footbridge, then following the route of the closed line to go under Common Lane then onto Kenilworth Common to where the new path joins the path by Finham Brook.  Turning left at this point, we can follow the brook to Common Lane.

Map - using part of Map 3 and part of Map 4 from the Feb-2012 Green Book

ACW 40-mile route will make use of this Option for 2012. The Feb-2012 edition, and all editions since 2012, of the Green Book shows and describes this route.
Map 3 directions 6 & 7 now read:
6.  Turn Left along the Greenway for about 3.5 miles until you reach a new (2011) bridge over the main Coventry-Kenilworth road. (prior to 2012 "A Coventry Way" descended to the main road at this point).
7.  Continue across the bridge and follow the "Greenway" around a gentle right hand curve.
Map 4 direction 1 reads:
1.  On reaching Kenilworth Common, continue down track to a T junction with stream beyond. Turn Left under railway bridge and keep right alongside stream to reach and go thro' gate into Common Lane. Turn Right and with care cross bridge to Checkpoint 1.

Circular Walk 5 has to make a small diversion where it joins the Greenway - the old route went up some steps, but as part of the C2K project a new slope has been created.  Use this route.  Walk 5 users then have the option of using the old route, or trying the new ACW route.  Note that the next phase of C2K will be improving the path from Coventry University to the Greenway, in general following the present route - while work is in progress there may be temporary diversions.

University Playing Fields to Cryfield Grange Road

The Connect2Kenilworth (C2K) project has also given us a short cut.  The last 2 sentences of Direction note 2 & first sentence of note 3 can be deleted and replaced by "Join new C2K cycle track, turn left to reach road".

The path from Cryfield Grange Road to the Kenilworth Greenway continues on the same route, but is now a combined Cycleway, Bridle Way and Footpath, with a hard surface and all stiles replaced by a Bridle Gate and Cattle Grid beside each other.

See map for detailed new route.

Note: The old route can still be used by turning left up newC2K cycle track, but  the return path is likely to rapidly deteriorate, and in any case is often very muddy.  If you want to visit the old sloping footbridge, you may prefer to go to it, but then return on the new C2K track again.
