ACW Circular Walk 14 - "Through Bulkington"

A good walk, but has suffered from navigation difficulties between Hollyhurst Lakes to just beyond Weston Lawns Fisheries.  We have been working with the Landowners/Farmers to create Permissive Paths (which we hope will soon become diverted Definitive routes).  We have also changed the route just after Bulkington to make use of the improved path through Barnacle Lane Pond nature conservation area.

The revised 2014 edition of the 21-walks book (currently under editing) has created a good draft for Walk 14 - a copy of Directions & Map is reproduced as 14-Directions&Map.PDF which you are advised to print, trim then paste over pages 68 & 69.

A short note on each significant change is given in table below.

GR 376 843 to 374 859,
Note 4, first 3 lines

Hollyhurst Farm Area

The change of land-use in this area to create football fields is nearing completion, and we are  using the new paths created to avoid crossing pitches which will soon be constructed.

Note 4, line 4

Through new woodland area

The change of land-use in this area to create the new "forest" was finished some years ago, but diversion of the Definitive Path is still not implemented.  The approved plans included diverting the path round the edge of the new forest, and we have agreed to use it.

Note 4, lines 5 & 6

Round Weston Lawns Farm Horse Paddocks

This route has been evolving over many years.

Now (mid-Nov-2014) the nennw route is usable on the "final" line.  Over the next few months the farmer expects to finalise the fences and fence crossings and spray the young oil seed rape to fully define the complete route on the ground.

GR 372 870 to 374 873
Note 4, lines 7 to 9

Round Weston Lawns Fishery lakes and to the Pylon

We have now agreed to an easier to follow route, and the new landowner will be evolving clearer route marking if needed.

A new fence is now in place clearly showing the boundary between "Weston Lawns Fishery land" and the "Weston Wood land" and a waymark and cleated path will soon clearly define the route from that fence to the Pylon.

GR 392 863 to 393 862
Note 5, lines 5 & 6

Barnacle Lane Pond nature conservation area

The new paths in this area make a more interesting and easier route.
