ACWA Working Party

On 21-Feb-2007 the Working Party replaced the two more stiles on Walk 17A with gates.

February Achievements

Two more stiles replaced, on either side of Sandy Lane, Fillongley.

The stile to the north of Sandy Lane joins the garden of Rose Cottage, and has been replaced by a wooden pedestrian gate.  The owners of Rose Cottage supplied us with the two concrete slabs installed to help avoid some of the sticky local clay.

The stile to the south of Sandy Lane has been replaced by a metal kissing gate, which  with a bit of wooden fencing work blends well into the hedgerow, and in no way detracts from the fine view ahead.

Plans

During March we plan 2 full working parties.

The next sessions will be on:

1. Wednesday 21st March at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location: Behind the hedge on east side of B4115 at Stoneleigh
Meet at: Lay-by at entrance to NAC car park on B4115 (GR 325 728)
Task(s): Build a flight of steps and install two new k/g to create a Permissive Path avoiding walking up the B4115

2. Wednesday 28th March at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location: Behind the hedge on west side of B4455 south of Bretford
(GR 428 765 to GR 429 767)
Meet at: Queens Head, Bretford car park (GR 431 772)
Task(s): Create a Permissive Path avoiding walking up the B4455

The above two tasks are part of the WCC CAROWIP, which promises to  "Identify key sites for creation of new rights of way to connect existing paths ..."  These are the first two of 6 target sites on the A Coventry Way 40-mile route.

We have agreed our plans for future working parties.  We confirm we will continue to place some effort in improving the remaining difficulties on the 40-mile walk, but now will give more priority to creating further stile-free short (3 to 5 mile) circular walks.  Work on CWCW 17A will start in February, and take most of 2007.

Dates for rest of 2007 mostly on the third Wednesday in each month from Jan-Nov.  The expected dates are:

  • Wednesday 18 Apr
  • Wednesday 16 May
  • Wednesday 20 Jun
  • Wednesday 18 Jul
  • Wednesday 15 Aug
  • Wednesday 19 Sep
  • Wednesday 17 Oct
  • Wednesday 21 Nov

Why not volunteer to join us whenever you can?
