ACWA Working Party

On 19-Sep-2007 a Working Party installed two new gates on ACW 40-mile route at Barnacle.

September Achievements

On 19-Sep-2007 we replaced two stiles with k/g ( GR 388 843 & GR 391 844) on either side of Shilton Lane, near Barnacle Hall.  Both of these are on ACW 40-mile route, and on Circular Walks 14 and 15.  One is also on Circular Walks 13.

The weather forecast had been for increasing cloud and light showers, after two weeks of glorious autumn sunshine.  In the event the only showers were just before 9:00 am and then after 2:00 pm.  We had worked mostly in sunshine, and finished by 1:30pm.  A satisfying day!

Plans

The WP Planned for Wednesday 17th October has been cancelled

The next session will be on:

Wednesday 21st Nov at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location: c.250 metres North-West of Shilton Lane, near Barnacle Hall & also end of Spring Road, Barnacle
Meet at: Barnacle Village Hall GR 388 847 - then most of us walk to sites
Task(s):

Replace one stile with k/g, and renew a long missing Waymark Post ( GR 387 845 & GR387 846) & replace a second stile with k/g. and a third stile with a p/g (GR 386 849)

All above are on ACW 40-mile route, and on Circular Walks 14 and 15.

Our plans for future working parties are to continue to place some effort in improving the remaining difficulties on the 40-mile walk and other circular walks, but to give more priority to creating further stile-free short (3 to 5 mile) circular walks.  Work on CWCW 17A started in February 2007, but will now not be complete till 2008.

Dates for 2008 will probably be mostly on the third Wednesday in each month from Jan-Nov.  The provisional expected dates are therefore:

  • Wednesday 16 Jan
  • Wednesday 20 Feb
  • Wednesday 19 Mar
  • Wednesday 16 Apr
  • Wednesday 21 May
  • Wednesday 18 Jun
  • Wednesday 16 Jul
  • Wednesday 20 Aug
  • Wednesday 17 Sep
  • Wednesday 15 Oct
  • Wednesday 19 Nov

Why not volunteer to join us whenever you can?
