ACWA Working Party

On 1-Jul-2009 a Working Party installed the three new kissing gates on the ACW route just north of Carol Green.

July Achievements 1 (to be cont. on WP News 41)

The first new gate is a k/g located at GR 257 782.  This replaces a short length of fence which formed a very hard to climb "narrow stile with no step".  This was another priority improvement achieved.

The second gate is a k/g located at GR 257 782, just across the sleeper bridge from the first.  This replaces a pedestrian gate, which had been installed within the last year, but the landlord had requested an upgrade.  We found the p/g concreted in, so left it in place, adjusted the fence, then added hoops.

In the picture above the first two gates and the sleeper bridge can be seen - but the photo was exposed to get a much better picture than last month of one of the HV Vests - and summer wear to suit the 28deg C temperatures!

The third new gate is a k/g located at GR 257 780.  This replaces a short length of fence which formed a very hard to climb "narrow stile with high posts".  This was yet another priority improvement achieved.

Another highlight of this WP was Chairman John Green presenting certificates to Bill Eve & Tony Kirby, members of A Coventry Way Association, on their successful completion of the Emergency Aid in the Workplace.

The course was presented by St John Ambulance and was ideally suited for the Association to ensure First Aid cover to our Working Party who are currently replacing stiles with kissing gates on the 40 mile Coventry Way footpaths around the outskirts of Coventry.

In summary a very satisfying day, with priority tasks completed, our commitment to training demonstrated, hot and sunny weather (but with shade to work in, and lots of iced drinks supplied by John).

Plans

The next sessions planned are:

1st Wednesday 15th July 2009 at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location: On Tantara Lodge to Bubbenhall paths
Park at: On the NNW side verge of the road (& ACW Route) from Tantara Lodge to Site 2 & Bubbenhall, where a "lay by" (at point 8 on the map) has been created by cars parking there before.  Unload your passengers, then park facing towards Bubbenhall as near the left fence as possible to avoid obstructing traffic on the road.
Meet at: Near site 2
Task(s): Exact tasks TBA, but almost certainly those at 2 or 3 of the sites marked on the map (To be confirmed later)
see Map for Details of Locations

2nd Wednesday 5th August 2009 at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location: Carol Green
Park at: Park on the NW side of the straight section of Spencers Lane about 100 yds from junction with ACW towards Berkeswell (GR 257 778)
Meet at: TBA
