October Achievements

On 23-Oct-2013 a WP built a Boardwalk from s/b to near bottom of the slope down from k/g On ACW just south of Meriden Shafts.

We also

  • rebuilt the s/b to remove the sunken plank and restore the plank separating from the main three planks &

  • cleared out the stream fro a bit upstream, under the bridge and then for a long way downstream

This was the first of two improvements we aimed to do before Challenge 2014 - See Plans below for the next planned improvement.

The day was again warm & sunny, though wet underfoot following previous days and nights of rain.  All was completed by about 2:30pm.  Over half of us got to "Queens Head" at Meriden for another very welcome lunch.

Plans

The planned End-October and November Working Parties are detailed below.

We are planning to have one extra WP on 30-Oct to make a start at restoring a dryer path along the Definitive Route at the north end of Corley Moor CRoW Open Access area - more details via email to likely volunteers.  The November WP will continue the project with probably addition days in November (assuming the currently forecast of a reasonably dry and reasonably warm November allows, and volunteers keep up the extra days as we fix them!)

The next session is planned on:

Wednesday 30th October 2013 at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location:

Corley Moor, from just south of bridge over M6 GR 281 856) for next 100 metres or so

Park at:

Bull & Butcher pub car park (GR 279 850)

Meet at:

As Location Above or wherever to the south of there that materials and tools can be delivered (depends on weather conditions on the day).

Task(s):

Site 1 - Build two or three s/b and clear out ditch and steams using soil to raise level of path.  Start clearing undergrowth as needed.
       see Map for Locations

The probable 2013 dates (assuming above & 3rd Wed every month Jan-Nov agreed at AGM) are:

  • 30-Oct-2013
  • ?  6-Nov-2013
  • ? 13-Nov-2013
  • 20-Nov-2013
  • Why not volunteer to join us whenever you can?  Please contact Bob Carey on 024 7645 5251 for further information.
