June Achievements

On 22-Jun-2016 a WP replaced 2 stiles with 2 k/g on CW02 at Baulk Lane and added a Sleeper Bridge to replace the climb down rough steps down then up a slippery slope out of the ditch.  Because of the lack of parking space our eight volunteers shared five cars to arrive at this work site, needing an early start for 2 of us to cut the hedge back so the cars were all just about on the grass verge.

The First k/g

Three of us then continued with hedge and vegetation clearing to find then take out the old stile and replaced it with a kissing gate while the other two of us installed the new sleeper bridge.

Lots of roots made the task interesting to design the layout as we explored the detailed root pattern, taking out any in the way, but leaving the biggest roots.

The result was a significant improvement, with appreciation shown by users, including one with two dogs making use of the bridge while we were still making sure the layout would work - nails were then added!

We also made the Finger post vertical again.

The Second k/g

The second task was a straightforward replacement of a simple stile with a standard k/g, with no roots to make the work harder - just a lot of stones from an earlier field gate and farm vehicle entrance.

The rain showers that had been forecast did not materialise and we were able to complete the task by c. 1:00pm without getting wet.  Four of us then drove to The  Brickmaker's Arms, (just 250 metres past Berkeswell Station railway bridge) for a good lunch.

Plans

The next WP is due on on Wednesday 20th July 2016 - Circular Walk 3 from point leaving Cromwell LaneDetails below.

Note that the WP to build the new boardwalk to extend the "long bridge to mud" to reach dry grass, north of Carol Green will not be possible until later in 2016.
