Work Party News

21 August 2013

We carried out path clearance and Waymark post improvements by adding two new Waymark posts and improving three others in the Hollyhurst Farm area. All are “ACW only” posts, needed to clarify the ACW route using permissive paths created as part of the Hollyhurst Football area constructed under planning permission from Nuneaton & Bedworth council, and now nearing completion.

New Waymark post added just west of Hollyhurst Farm area

Improved “behind the wooded hills” path on SW edge of Hollyhurst Farm area

The path clearing we did was mainly through the wood just west of the Hollyhurst Farm area. The “behind the wooded hills” path had been cleared and widened by the farmer’s heavy equipment in order to achieve the minimum 2 metre footpath required under the planning requirements, but has actually been made more like 4 metres wide to allow the mechanical hedge trimmer to keep the hedges and trees at each side well clear of the path. The farmer will also be finishing the SE end of this path by installing a culvert pipe and raising the surface to avoid the current steep path and ensure drainage good. We will return to do any hand finishing later.

The day was warm & sunny. All work was completed by about 11:45pm. Over half of us got to “The Greyhound Inn” at Sutton Stop for another very welcome lunch sitting by the canal.
