Work Party News
15 September 2010
We replaced or added 14 waymark posts on the ACW path crossing Kenilworth Golf Course, and replaced the last stile with a kissing gate by the A46. On 29 September 2010 a small work party installed a large metal kissing gate & a massive sleeper bridge on Circular Walk 1 east of Pickford Green.
The main task was to improve the waymarking across the Kenilworth Golf Course, ensuring all the waymarks are new and firmly installed, with a few extra added to ensure navigation of this route is accurate – and will remain so.
The waymarks were placed in locations agreed by both WCC and the Golf Course management, and we hope that no walkers or waymark posts will get lost from now on.
The other task of the day was to replace the stile with a kissing gate where ACW turns to cross the A46 near to Stoneleigh. This now completes all improvements on ACW in this area, and means ACW is stile-free from the Solihull border up to the series of stiles between Tantara Lodge and Bubbenhall. In all a satisfying mornings work, followed by a return to the Cottage Inn for lunch.
On 29 September a small work party installed a large metal kissing gate & a massive sleeper bridge at GR 277 813 on Circular Walk 1 east of Pickford Green. The kissing gate is a high accessibility one, and the sleeper bridge uses 8 full size railway sleepers for the deck, plus more for support. This was the middle one of 5 old rickety wooden kissing gates planned to be replaced over the next few months.
