Work Party News

20 February 2008

We worked with the landowner’s son and WCC to put in improved drainage, build a ballast path and add fencing on Circular Walk 5 just south of Baginton to solve the problem of mud on the path near the slab bridge (GR 343 745).

How many volunteers does it take to put in the last staple?

The landowner’s son got there early, and with his digger excavated lots of mud and soil, and filled the hole with large stones to create a drainage channel under the path. We arrived at 9:30am and built the gravel surface (see photos above) and also put gravel in the smaller wet patch just over the slab bridge. We then built the fence along the path from the field gate to the kissing gate – this should stop the horses from trampling on the new path and turning it back to mud.

We finished a bit before 1:00pm, and retired to the Baginton Oak to ponder plans for the rest of 2008 and beyond.
