Work Party News

17 January 2008

We installed two new kissing gates to replace stiles at (GR 357 721) & (GR 358 722), just before and after the barn on the path approaching Bubbenhall from the south.

This stretch of path is used by ACW 40-mile route, ACW-CW 7 and Centenary Way. This stretch is also about to be shared with the new Shakeapeare’s Avon Way – an 88 mile, long distance footpath, currently nearing launch date. We were joined on this working party by Jenny Davidson as she passed along waymarking the new route (see photo above, and the Avon Way waymark on the second gate in photo on the right. This waymark is of a new type being supplied by WCC to mark all the official long distance paths – ACW version will be seen soon, and will then progressively replace the old “sticker” version used at present).

This was another satisfying days work. By some good luck, we had chosen the wonderful sunny day, sandwiched between a week’s worth of very wet days – we arrived to find the road to the south running with water, and the ditch beside it looking more like the river Avon. (The Avon at Ryton looked more like Lake Windermere, and at Tewkesbury looked like an ocean). However conditions were excellent for working, and we finished by 1:00pm, cleaned our boots in the stream running down the road and moved to the pubs in Bubbenhall.
