Work Party News

20 July 2016

We did some clearance work on CW 3, from leaving Cromwell Lane to the new kissing gate installed by KFPG. This included the creation of the new definitive route over the old football fields.

  1. On 18 & 20 July work parties did clearance work on CW 3, from leaving Cromwell Lane to the new kissing gate installed by KFPG. The tasks included the creation of the new definitive route over the old football fields. We had planned to limit the Monday task to just marking the route, but with Monday weather good and thunder forecast for Wednesday our team of three worked till 13:00 and had the main tasks completed. On Wednesday we did some more detail so route now “usable.” We will comeback soon to smooth out the many clumps of rough grass and make sure the strimming is as good as we can get it.
  2. A repeat of the first task of the July 2015 work party, the clearance of the path from Cromwell Lane to the 1st new gap into old playing fields. (20 July only for tasks 2. to 4.)
  3. We dug one gully to drain part of the short but very muddy stretch through the Juniper tunnel into the ditch to the east, and building the path level up to try to ensure good drainage (we were unable to dig two more gullies due to roots of hedge – a new plan must be put in place).
  4. Any other overgrown part of the enclosed path from the 2nd new gap and the new k/g installed by KFPG. This task was mostly completed.

On both days the morning weather was in the event good, but by noon it was much too hot. On Monday 18th we finished about 1:00pm and two of us tried the Warwickshire beer at the Hickory’s Smokehouse but felt too hot for food. On Wednesday 20th we finished work about noon, then six of us had a shady table in the garden, two just for a drink and four sampling the Hickory’s Smokehouse food.
